i don't think it's possible to leave nyc and feel like you've done everything. there will always be something - some restaurant you wish you had time for, a museum you didn't make it to, a neighborhood you didn't walk, a food you just couldn't eat because you were too full. even though i was "done" with nyc when i got on the plane to come home a few days ago, i can't help but think of the things i wish i could do if only i were there now.
don't waste your time with any pizza other than Roberta's. it's in brooklyn and i think about it daily. read about it here:

while the owners are currently at war with one another over the restaurant you'd never know. 2 michelin stars for friggin pizza. you literally can't get a seat at the place. i mentioned earlier that we had to get take out and sit on a wooden railing outside with about 40 other guests.
while we were there this group of people rolled up on bikes. this guy told them all about the place and went in and ordered pizza for them and they all ate. clearly it was a bike tour. and then we met their leader. his name is tony and he's lived in brooklyn since 1960. he saw bushwick when it was at it's worst - nothing but factories and crime. but he loves this place. he always has. and watching it be reborn into something fantastic has made him so happy that he can't wait to share his home with folks. he's an avid cyclist. so he started a bike touring company.
and i wish i had paid tony to bike with me all over brooklyn.
seriously we've hit brooklyn by foot 3 times and i still don't feel like i really know it. i know for a fact there are beautiful pockets of brownstones that i haven't even seen yet. i know that at night there's a very of the most famous skyline in the world that i haven't seen yet. i know that there is food that i haven't tasted. i know that tony knows all of those things like the back of his hand. who better to take you around a city than someone who loves it?
so when we talked to tony he didn't tell us we should bike with him. there was no hustling of business, in fact we had to approach him and ask him about what was going on, how long has he lived here, etc. i even had to ask him for a card. in a town full of people shoving tours in your face, when someone doesn't do that you really want to go.
next time, i'll spend more time with tony. on a bike in brooklyn. eating pizza, looking a brownstones, and i'll take lots of pictures.
